3. PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
3.1 Exposure Standards
Ammonium chloride (fume) : TWA = 10 mg/m3 STEL = 20 mg/m3
3.2 Engineering Controls
Ensure adequate ventilation to maintain exposure levels below Standards.
3.3 Personal Protection
Wear appropriate protective eyewear or chemical safety goggles. Wear impervious gloves. Wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent skin exposure.
3.4 Flammability
Non-flammable. SAFE HANDLING INFORMATION
4.1 Storage / Transport
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances. Keep in a tightly closed container. Protect from physical damage. Containers of this material may be hazardous when empty since they retain product residues (dusts, solids); observe all warnings and precautions listed for the product.
4.2 Packaging / Labelling UN No. N/A Class None Allocated Sub Risk None Allocated Hazchem Code N/A Pack Group 0 EPG No. N/A Shipping Name AMMONIUM CHLORIDE Hazard HARMFUL
Risk Phrases R22 Harmful if swallowed. R36 Irritating to eyes.
Safety Phrases S2 Keep out of the reach of children. S22 Do not breathe dust.
4.3 Spills and Disposal
Spills
Avoid generating dusty conditions. Wear personal protective gear when handling this product.
Ventilate area of leak or spill. Sweep up and containerise for reclammation or disposal. Vacuuming or wet sweeping may be used to avoid dust dispersal.
Disposal
Whatever cannot be saved for recovery or recycling should be managed in an appropriate and approved waste disposal facility. Processing, use or contamination of this product may ahcnge the waste management options. State and local disposal regulations may differ from federal disposal regulations. Dispose of container and unused contents in accordance with federal, state and local requirements.
4.4 FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD Fire / Explosion
Substance is non-combustible. Stable at room temperature in closed containers under normal storage and handling conditions. Avoid excess heat. Incompatible with acids, alkalis and their associated carbonates. Substance reacts with lead and silver salts to form a fulminating compound. Substance reacts with ammonium compounds, bromine pentafluoride, bromine trifluoride, hydrogen cyanide, iodine heptafluoride, nitrates and potassium chlorate. Hazardous decomposition products include ammonia and hydrochloric acid fumes. Hazardous polymerisation has not been reported. At fire temperatures ammonium chloride begins to corrode metals and may dissociate into ammonia and hydrogen chloride. Mixtures of about 16% to 25% (by volume) ammonia gas in air are flammable.
Extinguishing Media
Use any means suitable for extinguishing surrounding fire. Water spray may be used to keep fire exposed containers cool. 5 OTHER INFORMATION
